Kelsey Birsa, Here

Using detailed rendering and abstract marks to explore everyday moments of her communities, Birsa combines traditional oil painting techniques with the contemporary use of mixed media to reflect on the human experience and the desire to feel connected. Through her paintings, Birsa explores experiences of the pandemic and the feelings of anxiety and depression that it has created in herself and many others. While we each experienced last year a little differently, in her paintings of these unique experiences, Birsa’s highlights that we are together in our loneliness.

Dee Vadnais: Her family’s Story
in the Oregon Landscape

Dee Vadnais, Contemplating Elephant Rock

From the original Aurora Colony settlement to the Rhapsody Project, this exhibition celebrates a sampling of Oregon’s creative communities, rural history, and cultural heritage through the Vadnais family explorations of visual art, experimental architecture, intentional communities, and roots music.

This exhibit was organized through the nonprofit Art in Oregon’s Artistic Heritage Program, which celebrates without prejudice or generalizations the role of creativity in artists’ families towards inspiring people to appreciate traditions of expression in their own heritage.

Tied to the Moon: Friderike Heuer

Friderike Heuer, Curiosity

This photomontage series describes some of the common experiences of women across centuries. Just like our physiologies are tied to the phases of the moon so are we tied through shared life events and states connected to our lives.

You Are Not A Robot

Jen Brown, The Allegory of Post Truth

This exhibit examines humanity’s emotional logical, bringing together artwork and projects that reflect the familiar complexities of life; asking questions with no definitive answer. As we bravely navigate our daily lives, we are keenly aware of the risks we take. Still, we venture forth with optimism that we will make the best decisions we can based on information from our complex personal and social experiences.  Our logical calculations include the incalculable, such as emotions, beliefs, ethics, traumas, joys, love, legacy, loyalty, and longing. All personal truths are valid, as chance has brought us together in this moment from our different paths.

Participating artists: Jen Brown, Elise Azam Mravunac, Alan Rose, Cayla Skillin-Brauchle, Quire, Ken Eklund, Austin Fields, Barbara Martin, Carissa Burkett, Karly Villaseñor, Don Hudgins, Tim Timmerman, Audra Harley, Brianna Lewis, Annie Bunch, Michelle L. An Artistic Heritage

Carrie Gilbert, I See A Pattern

This group exhibition explores the influence of artistic expression in family upbringing and legacies of creativity.  Inspired by conversations and reoccurring themes discussed among artists at AiO’s PACT (Professional Artists Coming Together) events, An Artist Heritage showcases generations of creative expression across a wide array of mediums.  The 13 professional artists represented in the exhibition were selected through invitation and an open call for art. Artist selections were made with diversity of relations and mediums in mind.  In all, artworks from 33 creative individuals will be on display in the Dance Studio Gallery inside Lakewood Center for the Arts.  AiO hopes this exhibition inspires conversations about the importance of having support and role models in family life, in particular as this support relates to creativity, arts, and culture

Participating artists: Ruth & Amelia Armitage, Oliver Buckingham, Ron & Annie Bunch, Douglas & Desmond Burns, Tamara & Mabel English, Gabe & Sophie Fernandez, Elizabeth Mills Fingers, Penelope Franklin, Carrie & Wesley Gilbert, Roberta Killian Hipp, Lee, Kassandra & Lucy Kelly, Kendra Larson, Micaiah & Phoenix Lebron, Gabriel, Saul & Elio Parque, Keely Rademacher, Veronica Reeves, Samantha Ross, Erik & Nelson Sandgren, Clairissa & Sorena Stephens, Amanda Triplett.
